Phone number guide · Growth or Starter

Do you need a phone number for an AI receptionist? Only if customers ring.

You need a phone number for an AI receptionist only if customers ring you: Growth, A$499 a month plus A$1,999 set-up, includes an Australian mobile number, or you keep yours and divert. If they type, Starter at A$199 a month plus A$999 set-up answers web chat, Facebook, Instagram and email with no phone number, and if you’d rather answer everything yourself, Smart Tools start from A$29 a month, all ex GST.

The two-minute test

Two lists and one number decide it.

No form, nothing to submit. The evidence is already in your call history and message folders, and it takes about as long as making a coffee.

01

Count the strangers who rang you

Open your recent calls and go back a fortnight. Count the numbers you don’t recognise: not the wholesaler, not your sparky mate, not your partner. Strangers. Count the missed ones too, especially the missed ones.

02

Count the strangers who typed at you

Now the other side: web chat, Facebook and Instagram messages, enquiry form emails, anything from a listing. Same fortnight, same rule: people you’d never dealt with before.

03

Count the calls that ended in nothing

Back to the first list. How many rang out, went to voicemail or got a call back too late? That number decides it. The strangers who typed get answered on the cheaper plan either way. The strangers who rang and got silence are the whole case for a phone number.

Your result

Which side are you on?

Calls that ended in nothing? You’re on the phone side: Growth. Mostly typed, and few rang? You’re on the typed side: Starter. Read the catch on each before you pick.

Your customers ring you: Growth

What you get

An Australian mobile number, included in A$499 a month plus A$1,999 set-up, ex GST. Not an add-on.

What it does

Answers every call on the first ring, any hour, in your words. It screens the job, quotes from your price list, books it in and texts the customer a confirmation. If a call still rings out, it texts them back.

Charged per call and text

A$0.03 a minute for calls, A$0.11 a text sent and A$0.02 received. Most businesses spend about A$30 to A$70 a month on those (an estimate). Calls and messages are unlimited, fair use applies.

Your number

Keep the one on the van and divert calls to us. Your signage, invoices and listing stay exactly as they are.

The catch

It’s A$300 a month more than Starter, plus calls and texts. And a number answers demand, it doesn’t create any: if your phone is quiet, Growth won’t change that.

Your customers type at you: Starter

What you get

The same AI on web chat, Facebook, Instagram and email. It answers in seconds and books into your calendar.

What it costs to run

A$199 a month plus A$999 set-up, ex GST. No phone number, so nothing is charged per call or text. Unlimited conversations, fair use applies. The bill in month nine is the bill in month one.

What you don't get

Anything involving a phone: no number, no call answering and no texts at all, not even alerts or reminders. Those go by email instead.

Who lands here

Solar, real estate, cleaning, professional services, anything sold off a website or a listing, and any office where somebody really does pick up the phone.

The catch

Get this wrong and Starter runs beautifully while the jobs that ring out go to someone else. Do step three properly before you pick this side.

Plenty of readers don’t need one.

If the typed list wins, the honest answer is Starter at A$199, and we’ll say so, even though it means A$300 a month less for us. If the phone starts to matter later, moving up is a proper build, and we’d rather have that chat then than sell you a phone number now.

Calls and texts

The number’s included. Calls and texts aren’t.

Two example months on Growth, an ordinary one and a busy one, so the calls and texts on your bill aren’t a surprise. The plan is A$499 a month either way.

Both months are examples, not quotes. The text count is the weakest figure: it depends on how chatty your confirmations are and how many customers text back, so treat the minutes as solid and the texts as a guess. Most businesses spend about A$30 to A$70 a month on calls and texts (an estimate). Not in the table: GST, and calls you make from your own phone, which never appear on our invoice.

Questions

AI receptionist phone number questions

Only if customers ring you. Growth, A$499 a month plus A$1,999 set-up, includes an Australian mobile number, or keep yours and divert. If customers type, Starter at A$199 a month plus A$999 set-up answers chat, social and email with no phone number. Prices ex GST. Take the two-minute test

Yes, and most businesses do. Divert unanswered calls to your LeadGenie number from the day you go live, and your number stays where it is. You can move it to us later, but that runs on the carriers’ timetable, so we start you on a divert. Nothing on your signage or Google listing changes.

Nothing extra: one Australian mobile number is included in the A$499 a month. It’s a mobile because Growth texts booking confirmations, and a landline can’t. Calls are A$0.03 a minute and texts A$0.11 sent and A$0.02 received, itemised each month. Most businesses spend about A$30 to A$70 a month on those (an estimate). Two example months

No. Starter has no phone number, so no texts at all: alerts, reminders and follow-ups go by email instead. Texts and missed call text back start on Growth. SMS consent terms

No. There are no handsets, desk phones, extensions or hold music. It’s one number that an AI answers, and it always says it’s an AI assistant. If a caller asks for a person, it takes a message and requests a call-back. How we disclose AI

Ring us and we’ll work through it honestly, including whether it’s ringing enough yet to be worth it. Plans are month to month, with 30 days’ notice and no exit fee. Moving up is a build, not a setting: we write, train and test the voice receptionist with you, which takes 10 to 14 business days. How we set it up for you

Still not sure which side you're on?

A 30-minute video call, no obligation, nothing built until you say go. We’ll run the test with you, and if it comes out typed, we’ll tell you to buy the cheaper plan.
